An American Airlines ground crew worker was killed at Montgomery Airport

The airport said that an American Airlines ground crew worker was killed today at Montgomery Regional Airport.

“Today at approximately 3 p.m., a Piedmont employee of an American Airlines ground crew was involved in a death. No additional information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the bereaved.”

Update: NTSB says worker ‘got into the engine’

The airport issued a statement around 7:45 p.m

“We are saddened to hear of the tragic loss of a member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines team,” said Wade A. Davies, CEO of MGM.

The airport has resumed operating normally as of 8:30 pm today, according to the airport’s tweet.

“The FAA’s investigation into the tragic accident in Piedmont” is still ongoing, the tweet read.

We are devastated by the incident at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines, the regional airline of American Airlines. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and members of our local team. “We are focused on ensuring everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” said an American Airlines spokesperson.

Piedmont Airlines is working alongside the NTSB, the FAA, and local law enforcement authorities as they investigate the crash.

American Airlines has not provided additional information due to an active investigation.

“The worker was fatally injured on a ramp at Montgomery Regional Airport where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E-175, was parked,” the FAA said in a statement to AL.com.

More information will be available when the FAA publishes a preliminary report the next business day, read the FAA statement.
