The 16-core part that uses the full 170 watts available to it may be able to surpass 5.5GHz clocks and deliver clock speeds not seen before on an AMD Ryzen CPU. Intel also aims to create similar watches with Raptor Lake-S Desktop CPUs So it makes sense that AMD would come head-to-head with the blue team in the watches department, somewhere where they have lagged behind over the past two years.
We’re already excited to see 5.5GHz clocks for AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, so anything above will be a treat for consumers looking to build a brand new AM5 PC with the latest Ryzen 7000 desktop Zen 4 processors. These frequencies are only on the highest spectrum for AM5 boards like those based on the X670E chipset with plenty of VRMs to handle the power delivery requirements of the new Fmax specification.
