Amazon's Steve Aoki stepped back from the game during layoffs

Amazon may have just confirmed that it’s laying off employees, but it looks like it still has room for Steve Aoki’s party. On Wednesday night, the superstar DJ performed a live concert for what appeared to be a group of Amazon warehouse employees, and the whole thing was broadcast on Amazon.com AmazonVestLife Twitch Channel.

We knew this was happening at all thanks The New York Times Karen Wise, of Tweet about the performance shortly before its conclusion. But it appears the concert wasn’t entirely a secret, as Instagram site “amazonvestlife” (which, like its Twitch channel, describes itself as “the official Amazon Partners account”) posted a story featuring Aoki to promote the show. earlier on Wednesday. The DJ shouted to “Amazon” and said the show would be streamed on Twitch.

If that’s your familiar “throwing a concert right after people are laid off” thing, you’re not alone; It is said that WeWork I hosted a concert in the office Featuring Run-DMC’s Daryl McDaniels just weeks after CEO Adam Neumann fired 7 percent of the staff.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The cuts announced Wednesday by Amazon Senior Vice President Dave Limp affected the company’s hardware and services, and company spokeswoman Kristi Schmidt previously described the layoffs to me as a very small percentage of the team. But this division is not the only one affected, eg Fox mentioned Some employees in the company’s human resources department have received a purchase offer. New York times I mentioned Monday That Amazon plans to lay off nearly 10,000 corporate and technology employees in total.
