New York – Game 2 of ALDS match between New York Yankees And the Cleveland Guardians MLB announced that it was postponed due to rain and moved to Friday. The first pitch was originally scheduled for 7:37 p.m. ET on Thursday evening, though rain is forecast for most of Thursday and will continue into the early morning hours on Friday. Instead, Game 2 will now be played on Fridays at 1:07 p.m. ET (still airing on TBS).
Here’s the weather forecast for Thursday around the original scheduled start time for Game 2 (Via CBS News New York). Heavy rain is expected for New York around the first stadium.
The Atlanta Braves And the Philadelphia Phyllis I waited a three-hour rain delay before playing Game 2 on Wednesday, though the Yankees and Boys don’t have a similar playable window en route Thursday, so the game has been postponed.
Friday was originally ALDS out of the day, so rescheduling Game 2 was a piece of cake. However, the postponement forces the two teams to play matches 2-5 on four consecutive days (if matches 4 and 5 are necessary). Friday was the last scheduled holiday in the series. Here’s how delaying Game 2 affects each team’s display plans.
The Yankees won Game 1 behind Gerrit Cole and Anthony Rizzo. They lead the best streak out of five 1-0. Game 2 scheduled starters are All-Star lefty Nestor Cortes (12-4, 2.44 ERA) and 2020 AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber (13-8, 2.88 ERA).
