The procession of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin from Holyrood House to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland, began on Monday.

Her coffin was accompanied by King Charles III with Princess Royal Anne, Edward, Earl of Wessex and Andrew, Duke of York.

The Queen Consort and the Countess of Wessex followed her in a car.

Prince William and Prince Harry will not take part in the procession today, according to Sky News UK.

King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen’s consort, sat on the throne for the first time since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Both houses of Parliament were joined by King Charles III and Camilla as legislative members shared their condolences with the royal family.

Queen Elizabeth died Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

King Charles III and Camilla took the throne before they traveled that day. The new King and Queen headed to Scotland for the coffin procession of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Harry issues first statement on Queen Elizabeth II’s death

Prince Harry issued his first statement on Monday regarding the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Grandma, while this last parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all our first meetings—from my first childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as commander in chief, to the first moment you met my beloved wife and embraced your beloved great-grandchildren,” the prince shared. Harry is on the website of the Archewell Foundation, which he created with wife Meghan Markle after stepping down from his role as chief royal in 2020.

Scottish crowds greet King Charles III and the Queen

King Charles III and his wife Camilla, the Queen consort, are greeted by crowds on both sides as they drive along the Royal Mile before the procession of Queen Elizabeth II’s casket from Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. In the cathedral there will be a service to celebrate the life of the Queen and her relationship with Scotland.

King Charles III and his wife Camilla, Queen Elizabeth, descended on Edinburgh on Monday to accompany the coffin of his late mother in an emotionally charged procession through the historic heart of the Scottish capital to a cathedral where the public will lie for 24 hours to pay their last respects. Charles traveled to Scotland after receiving condolences earlier in Parliament and telling lawmakers he would follow his late mother’s example of “selfless duty”.

King Charles III and his wife Camilla, the Queen consort, have boarded a flight to Edinburgh where the new king will participate in a procession carrying the casket of his late mother to St Giles’ Cathedral. The Associated Press reported that the plane left RAF Northolt on the outskirts of London for Edinburgh Airport on Monday.

In the Scottish capital, Charles and Camilla were due to go to the Palace of Holyroodhouse where Queen Elizabeth’s coffin lay all night. She got there after a six-hour trek into the heart of a summer retreat to the Queen’s beloved Balmoral Castle, where the 96-year-old king passed away on Thursday. The royal couple are due to attend a mass to commemorate the Queen, visit the Scottish Parliament and meet senior officials.

This comes as part of the new king’s first tour of all four countries in the United Kingdom as king. Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is scheduled for September 19. Members of the royal familyincluding the King, will stand by the sarcophagus in St Giles’ Cathedral.
