In a unique application, Soraa’s LED lamps now illuminate a historic British wine cellar. Soraa reported that its VIVID LED lamps were installed at Berry Bros. & Rudd in London, U.K.
Berry Bros. & Rudd, Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchant, has traded from the same shop since 1698. The company’s fascinating history includes supplying wines to British royalty, providing the wines on board the RMSTitanic, selling spirits to smugglers running alcohol into Prohibition-era America, and the wine cellars beneath the shop even sheltered Napoleon III.
Mark Sutton Vane of Sutton Vane Associates wanted high quality, reliable, and dimmable LED lamps that could fit into the existing tension wire system. Also, the lighting had to be installed without drilling or disturbing the historic cellar. Sutton Vane Associates selected Soraa’s Flicker Free MR16 VIVID LED technology. The specialty fixtures illuminate the wines’ rich colors.
Sutton Vane Associates also created specially made fittings for the tops of the columns in the cellar. These custom lights shine upward, illuminating the vaulted brick ceilings and bring light down the columns while the Soraa lamps on the tension wire system light the tables.
The MR16 LED lamps like all of Soraa’s LED products, use the company’s Violet-Emission 3-Phosphor (VP₃) LED technology. Soraa claims that the VP₃ technology creates perfectly rendered colors and whites. Also, the company says that the VP₃ VIVID COLOR™ technology uses every color in the rainbow, especially deep reds and renders warm tones beautifully and accurately. The lamps achieve a color-rendering index (CRI) of 95 and deep red (R9) rendering of 95.
“The Soraa lamps shine down onto the tables displaying the wines of the cellar and create a wonderful atmosphere in this unique space. The table is where the wine is and thus is the most important part of the room,” said Mark Sutton Vane. “Using Soraa LED lamps reduced glare, ensuring that the new scheme does not feel gloomy and, being LED, is extremely energy-efficient.”
“Previous lamps burned out often, creating obvious and bothersome dark spots and changing the lamps became cumbersome. The long life of Soraa LED lamps has helped us keep the environment vivid while dramatically reducing the need to replace LEDs,” said Sutton Vane.
