Phunware Adds Acuity Brands’ Atrius Navigator Software Development Kit to Indoor Positioning

Acuity Brands, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia USA, reported that Phunware, an enterprise mobile software firm, has become an Atrius(TM) Internet of Things (IoT) partner. Phunware will be adding the Atrius Navigator software development kit (SDK) to its indoor positioning technology product offerings. According to Acuity Brands, adding the Atrius Navigator software development kit gives customers an energy-efficient method to support Phunware’s hardware-agnostic indoor location capabilities.

Phunware currently offers an indoor positioning and wayfinding solution, available on both Apple® iOS and Android(TM) operating systems, and this indoor positioning solution can be embedded within a fully configurable company-managed native app or within a customer’s existing app through the company’s Mapping and Location SDKs.

Phunware to Improve Precision with Atrius

As an Atrius IoT Partner, Phunware will now be able to give customers an additional supported indoor positioning service (IPS).
Acuity Brands says its Atrius Navigator technology offers increased reliability and centimeter-level precision, as well as improved energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.

Luminaires Embedded with Atrius BLE and VLC Technologies

The Atrius Sensory Network, including luminaires, enabled with Atrius, utilize embedded Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) and Visible Light Communication (VLC) technologies that act as all-in-one access points for indoor and adjacent outdoor environments.

The Atrius IoT platform embedded the communication technology in the LED luminaires, eliminates the need for additional hardware components including stand-alone beacons that need separate installation, maintenance, and power sources.

“The ease of integration and highly adaptable nature of the Atrius IoT platform makes this technology suite ideal for creating high-value mobile applications that deliver indoor navigation, mobile marketing automation, contextual content and much more,” said Matthew Lindenberger, vice president of Engineering at Phunware. “As an Atrius partner, we can also help deliver the added benefit of networked intelligent lighting that provides highly accurate location awareness, significant energy savings and digital controls to our customers.”
