Acuity Brands, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia USA, introduced the nLight ECLYPSE(TM) controller, which combines digital lighting and HVAC controls onto one system. Acuity built the new smart building ready controller using its ECLYPSE(TM) platform from Distech Controls® and nLight® controls from Acuity Controls. Managers can use the platform to monitor, configure, and manage critical building systems through one intuitive interface. The ECLYPSE platform employs the BACnet(TM)/IP communications protocol.
The nLight ECLYPSE controller brings together the two critical building systems that consume the largest share of energy in facilities. Acuity points out that unifying HVAC and lighting systems onto a single control platform eliminates the installation and management of separate lighting and HVAC networks, and it also eliminates their related sensors and user management interfaces. In addition to eliminating duplicate control strategies, Acuity contends that this single platform simplifies the design of smart building systems, reduces installation time and costs, increases reliability compared to multi-application integration, and simplifies maintenance and serviceability.
“Building systems are complicated and facilities managers are increasingly dissatisfied with the cost and complexity of operating separate systems requiring multiple vendors, components and interfaces,” said Audwin Cash, Vice President, Acuity Controls. “nLight ECLYPSE controllers allow contractors and designers to select a unified platform that seamlessly joins lighting, lighting controls, HVAC, closed-circuit television and card access for a smart building ready solution.”
The nLight ECLYPSE controller monitors and controls sensor data for both HVAC and lighting in real-time. This real-time controlling and monitoring adjusts the occupant’s environment for the desired comfort while maintaining optimal energy efficiency.
The controller communicates through the Internet Protocol (IP) and Wi-Fi wireless networking technology. Specifically the device communicates BACnet/IP, and it can enable the unified control of lighting and HVAC as well as communication with other IP network-based IoT, smart devices. Acuity contends that this communication capability helps reduce complexity, time and cost usually associated with installing the architecture for smart buildings.
The nLight ECLPYSE controller features embedded HTML 5 -based visualization and user interface within each of the control devices. The user interface can deliver real-time data on energy usage, space utilization, and occupancy trends. Distributed intelligence and visualization gives the system reliable control without concern about a single point of failure. Authentication via an HTTPS server provides a proven and reliable method of securing sensitive building data.
An A+ Certified System Component
Acuity claims that the nLight ECLYPSE is an A+ Certified (TM) system component that offers an easy-to-specify, easy-to-install controls solution. The solution is interoperable with Acuity A+ Capable(TM) luminaires. Acuity asserts that its A+ Certified solutions help specifiers and contractors quickly select and implement lighting systems, for indoor or outdoor applications, which are both chromatically consistent and compatible.
