Lunera® of Santa Clara, California USA released its third generation family of LED lamps to replace High Intensity Discharge (HID)lights. According to Lunera, the family includes the world’s first Line-Driven LED lamp to replace traditional 400W Metal Halide (MH) or High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps that provide 20,000 fixture lumens.
The new lamps come in 20,000, 15,000, 9,000 or 4,5000 lumen packages. The company says it designed the new LED lamps to offer exceptional energy savings and give buyers access to utility rebates. Lunera also says that lamps enable convenient installation and provide high value when installed in parking garages, warehouses, and auditoriums as well as on factory floors, and in other large public spaces including airport terminals.
About the Lamps
The Lunera HID LED lamps offer up to 20,000 lumens and feature a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of over 80. The lamps are
available in color temperatures from 3500K to 5000K. They can be ordered for AC (120V-277V) installation. So, they are eligible for utility rebates. They can also be Ballast Driven (plug-and- play) for installation convenience.
The lamps reportedly reduce power consumption up to 67 percent compared to the HID lamp they replace. For example, an HID lamp that emits 4,500 lumens and consumes 175W can be replaced with a 58W Lunera HID LED lamp.
The HID LED lamps can be purchased with either an E39 Mogul, an E26 Medium base, or an E26 with a short neck for smaller surface mount fixtures. The lamp ships with an opaque optical lens that comes standard. Optional clear and Fresnel lens kits are also available.
Lunera designed the HID LED to operate in harsh industrial environments. The LED lamp offers enhanced surge protection up to 7,000kV and thermal management that allows operation at up to 150°F. Lunera backs the lamps with a 5-year warranty. The projected lifetime of the lamp is over 50,000 hours.
Capturing Rebates with Lunera Lamps
The line driven version of the HID LED Vertical lamp qualifies for utility rebates that can offset the upfront costs of replacing the lamps.
Lunera offers the E39 Mogul HID LED Vertical Retrofit Kit that bypasses the installed fixture ballast and hardwires
the lamp directly to 120V-277V line voltage to eliminate the potential for “snap back” and ensure persistence of use.
Lunera offers special financing terms that it calls Lighting as a Service (LaaS). With the turnkey LaaS financing solution, Lunera says that upgrading with its HID LED Vertical lamps can be cash flow positive from the beginning. Lunera contends that its LaaS solution is scalable and provides the lamps, installation and maintenance, and service. The LaaS financing model pays the upfront cost of the lighting upgrade and ongoing service through energy savings.
