LEDvance LLC, of Wilmington, Massachusetts USA, recalled Sylvania RT56HO 900 lumen recessed canister light kits which were originally manufactured in China. The recall (recall number 18-089) involves Sylvania RT56HO 900 lumen recessed canister light kits with Batch 0 following a five digit code, such as 75137-0, printed on the back of the white rim and on the product’s packaging.
The company says that it has received three reports of consumers being shocked by the recalled canister lights, but no injuries were reported. According to LEDvance, about 45,000 were sold in the U.S. and an additional 11,000 were sold in Canada. The company warned that the recalled recessed canister light kits can short-circuit when consumers try to troubleshoot flickering lights. The short circuit can cause shock and electrocution hazard.
Consumers Advised to Immediately Stop Using Recalled Light Kits
LEDvance advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled canister light kits and contact the company for free replacement and installation by a technician. Warnings and instructions must be followed to disconnect power before repairing, removing, or replacing the recalled recessed canister light kits.
The company says that between June 2015 and October 2016 the recalled canister lights were sold to industrial and commercial distributors for about $45 per kit, and the recalled product was not sold directly to consumers.
