GE has voluntarily recalled 2packs of T8 LED tube lamps sold exclusively at Lowes stores nationwide. The recall affects about 46,000 packages of two tube lamps (92,000 individual lamps) sold exclusively at Lowes stores November 2017 through April 2018 for about $15.
This recall involves GE Lighting’s 31243 LED13T8U840 LED two pack tube lamps. These units are most often used in basements, garages, utility rooms, and workshops. The GE logo and model information appear on a label near the tube’s base.
According to GE, during installation and removal of the lamps, the pins on one end of the lamp can be energized. The company indicated that people who accidentally touch these pins during either removal or installation risk electric shock or even electrocution.
GE says that no injuries have been reported. However, to prevent even the possibility of such incidents, GE worked with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to initiate a FAST Track recall. GE advises consumers to immediately contact GE Lighting to receive instructions on safely removing the LED tube lamps and to receive a refund in the form of a $17 Lowes gift card. The company warns that consumers should make sure the light switch is “off” before attempting to change all LED tube lamps.
Consumers are asked to contact GE Lighting at 800-338-4999 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at firstname.lastname@example.org or online at www.gelighting.com and click on “Product Safety Information” for more information.
