February 22, 2010... Union City, California USA--An LED desk lamp, the Curve by Finelite, won Best in Class in the 2009 NGL Design Competition. Two other Finelite entries also received recognition as winners, the Muro wall wash luminaire and the LED Undercabinet. “The NGL awards program is one of several of DOE’s important efforts to increase market acceptance and awareness of LEDs for general lighting. Finelite is proud to be an innovator in LED technology to meet end-user needs.” The NGL Design Competition promotes excellence in energy-efficient LED luminaire design and provides the market with a list of “recognized” products that are market-ready and recommended for specification. The Curve by Finelite was awarded one of only four Best in Class honors and was the only desk lamp recognized by the judges. In fact, the Curve received the highest overall rating in the competition with the judges commending the overall “delicate yet sturdy design.” Available in June 2010, the Curve by Finelite produces a controlled beam designed to cover the task area with light levels that can be adjusted by a dimming thumbwheel. The luminaire head and stem swivel for ideal positioning, and the LED module is field-replaceable, enhancing the sustainability of these long-life luminaires. The Muro wall wash luminaire features a sleek, elegant design and consumes 30 percent less energy than comparable fluorescent luminaires. Available in 4’ and 8’ lengths, this luminaire features excellent performance, field-replaceable LED modules, and various mounting options. The Muro will be available to the market in the fall of 2010. The LED Undercabinet by Finelite delivers supplemental illumination for use under shelves and binder bins and features a modular design, making it easily configurable to meet user requirements. At just 0.8” tall, this low-profile luminaire can be used in concealed and non-concealed applications. The LED Undercabinet luminaire will be available in the fall of 2010. Terry Clark, Finelite CEO, accepted the awards at the Strategies in Light NGL ceremony in Santa Clara, California. “Finelite hopes its achievement will inspire others to move LED technology forward in its best applications,” says Mr. Clark. “The NGL awards program is one of several of DOE’s important efforts to increase market acceptance and awareness of LEDs for general lighting. Finelite is proud to be an innovator in LED technology to meet end-user needs.” Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, the second annual NGL Design Competition was launched in May 2009 and attracted 126 entries from 60 lighting companies. Of the products submitted, 47 were chosen as “recognized” winners and only four of these were chosen as Best in Class to be promoted by NGL as the products that showcase excellence in performance and design. A panel of 12 judges from the architectural design community evaluated the entries based on performance, appearance, construction, and submitted photometric data.
