December 4, 2008... New York, New York USA -- Greenlight Initiative, a New York based LED-lighting sales and solutions provider, announced today that it has appointed lighting industry veteran, Richard Burton as Director of its Southeastern US office. Mr. Burton has over 25 years of experience in the industry, with extensive experience in lighting retrofit implementations and maintenance projects in support of national retailers. The opening of its newest regional office, in the Atlanta, Georgia area, marks the next phase of Greenlight Initiative's Eastern US and Canadian coverage plan, and allows it to effectively serve the lighting industry’s need for LED specialization in key East-coast markets.

According to Nik Nicolakis, President and co-founder of Greenlight Initiative, “Richard has a tremendous understanding of the retrofit and systems lighting markets, and helped lead the industry in conversion to first generation T8, then T5 fluorescent lighting solutions. It’s only appropriate in the next few years that he would find himself helping those organizations manage the move to LED-based lighting. His wealth of experience in energy savings, as well as the maintenance aspects of lighting systems, provides a unique perspective in implementing common-sense LED lighting investments for our customers.”

Mr. Burton joined the lighting industry in 1982 during the emergence of the first generation of compact fluorescent lamps. He spent 12 years with the nation’s largest lighting service company, Sylvania Lighting Services (SLS), where he developed and marketed customized lighting maintenance contracts for national retailers. While there, Richard became SLS’s project specialist, creating sophisticated audit, specification and energy calculation tools in support of energy-efficient lighting upgrades and retrofits for commercial, industrial, municipal, education, healthcare, and retail accounts.

“It's clear that LED’s are poised to supplant all traditional sources of lighting,” commented Richard Burton. “I am pleased to have found an organization like Greenlight Initiative that recognizes that the opportunity will come about most effectively when an organization is focused on solid state lighting. With LED technology able to provide a positive return on investment in most commercial, industrial and municipal applications right now, the key battle in the next few years will be to clearly demonstrate quality systems backed by realistic business cases. Our clients need to know that they aren’t guinea pigs in some leading-edge industry experiment. Instead, we'll help them see that a Greenlight Initiative solid state lighting solution is something they can count on to deliver on the environmentally responsible energy- and cost-saving promise of LED lighting technology.”
