Arquiled's Streetlights Utilize LEDs and Light Sensors from Osram Opto Semiconductors

July 16, 2010... Arquicity street luminaires by Arquiled utilize LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors. Apart from LEDs, luminaire manufacturer Arquiled now fits an ambient light sensor from Osram Opto Semiconductors in its new luminaries. According to Osram Opto the sensor intelligently manages the light output and reduces energy costs at the same time. It automatically adjusts the brightness of the LEDs to any situation. Osram Opto Semiconductors says its SFH 5712 digital ambient light sensor regulates the LED’s light intensity depending on lighting conditions.

Osram says that the sensor's spectral sensitivity matches that of the human eye. So, the brighter the ambient light, the weaker the street luminaires will shine. The Golden Dragon Plus LEDs used in the street lights have an efficacy of 100lm/W. Osram says that the LEDs have been specifically designed for street lighting and are available in various color temperatures. Osram says that its robust Golden Dragon Plus LEDs are ideally suited to lighting roads, pathways and squares, and have a long life of more than 50,000 hours.

Osram points out that because the streetlights use LEDs, the light can be directed where it is needed with less wasted. For the reason, Osram notes that less light is actually needed with directed light of LEDs to illuminate the road properly.
