Cree, Inc. of Durham, North Carolina USA, has launched the new Cree® HXB Series LED High Bay Luminaire.According to Cree, the HXB Series High Bay can operate at extreme ambient temperatures of -40F to +149F. The high bay luminaire delivers up to 70,000 lumens at the efficiency of up to 140 lumens per watt. The luminaire can be mounted at heights of 30 feet or more. Optical options for the luminaire include flood and aisle light distributions. The HXB High Bay Series can be used in applications such as cold-storage spaces with sub-zero temperatures and applications that have to with high-heat conditions such as warehouses and airplane hangars.
“Cree continues to provide better light experiences by delivering on the true potential of LED technology,” said David Elien, Cree senior vice president, lighting. “The HXB Series redefines the high-bay category with extraordinary rated lifetimes and industry-leading lumens per watt even in extreme operating temperatures that are found in distribution centers, gymnasiums and field house applications.”
The HXB Series boasts half the weight and double the warranty of competing LED high-bay fixtures. The luminaire has a projected lifetime of 100,000 hours and has a virtually maintenance-free design. Unlike competing metal halides and high-intensity discharge lamps, the luminaire requires no restrike (or warmup) time that can be as long as 15 minutes or more.
The design features a unique aluminum bonded zipper fin heat sink that Cree says offers unmatched thermal management for both long lifetime and exceptional efficacy in the most extreme operating temperatures. The HXB heat sink uses less material than cast aluminum heat sinks and this reduced weight helps make it just half the weight of competing luminaires.
The series is available with 35,000 and 70,000 lumen output options. The luminaire can serve as a one-for-one replacement of 500W and 1000W HID luminaires with color temperatures of 3500K, 4000K or 5000K at up to and beyond 80 CRI.
The universal mounting system reportedly makes installation simple. The device is wrapped in a unique two-piece impact-resistant polycarbonate glare shield that comes in either translucent or opaque with an optional uplight feature.
