Arrow / partners – New reference system accelerates solid-state lighting designs (Cree – LEDagon LED lighting system)

Arrow Electronics, Cree, Haeusermann and Kathrein Austria have announced LEDagon, a novel new LED lighting solution. The LEDagon LED reference lighting system showcases a variety of solid-state lighting technologies including thermal management solutions, innovative printed circuit boards, sensors and other electronic components in a straightforward manner that is easy to understand.

LEDagon provides companies with an opportunity to implement product ideas quickly and economically with market-leading suppliers. Arrow, Cree, Haeusermann and Kathrein Austria have formed a partnership that offers a complete spectrum of technologies and services to meet all needs, ranging from design support, through the integration of state-of-the-art technologies, to assembly and component procurement.

LEDagon is based on HSMtec, a copper/FR4 printed circuit board technology developed by Haeusermann. HSMtec enables optimized thermal management for high-power LEDs and arrays, high-current capabilities and multi-dimensional PCB structures for individual lighting- and product-design. LEDagon also adds intelligent control electronics featuring a microcontroller and Xlamp high-performance LEDs from Cree that enable new application areas for LED lighting. Parameters, including position, direction, brightness and temperature, can all be managed via the sensor-based controller. Capacitive buttons and sliders on the housing can be used for setting different operating modes. A seven-segment display shows the current operating mode. Software updates can be downloaded via a mini USB 2.0 interface. A Windows host application is integrated that allows the user to control the system remotely, analyse results or install firmware updates. Energy supply is via a standard DC power supply.

Haeusermann, Kathrein Austria and Arrow plan to exhibit the LEDagon LED reference lighting system at Light+Building, Frankfurt, 15-20 April 2012.
