Acuity Brands, Inc. announced a complete, end-to-end indoor positioning services (IPS) solution comprised of two Atrius™ Internet of Things (IoT) platform services: Atrius™ Navigator software development kit (SDK), and Atrius™ Insights spatial analytics web application. The Atrius™ Navigator SDK utilizes cloud-based services and administrative tools. Acuity Brands says that the Atrius indoor positioning solution (IPS) helps businesses create applications that enhance business operation.
Atrius Navigator SDK Allows Development of Mobile Apps with IPS and LBS
According to Acuity, the Atrius Navigator SDK enables the development of mobile applications that offer IPS and location-based services (LBS). Such IPS and location-based services include proximity marketing, point of interest search, wayfinding (blue dot navigation), and geo-fencing. Atrius Navigator services get data from luminaires enabled with Atrius technology using Bluetooth® Low Energy and/or Visible Light Communication.
These technologies form a dense Atrius Sensory Network that canvasses indoor and adjacent outdoor environments to accurately and precisely give a customer using a specialized app their location inside a building. Both the BlueTooth and VLC technology act as location beacons giving the location of each light. The data from multiple lights is converted into a precise indoor location.

Atrius Insights Transforms IPS and LBS Data into Spacial Analytics
Atrius Insights compiles all of this location data from Atrius or third-party indoor positioning systems over time and uses map-based visualization to transform the data into spacial analytics. Thus, Atrius Insights can provide both real-time and historical intelligence on where and when visitors spend their time in a space. The analysis includes traffic flow and congestion, dwell times, number of first time and return visits, and visit volume by time of day.
